Feels like home.....

I have to say that I absolutely love my house right now! The carpet was finished today and everything has turned out wonderful. It's amazing what new flooring....oh and a new dining room table.....oh and a new tv stand can do to change the look of the place. When they tore out the old flooring it was DISGUSTING! I can't even begin to describe the stains and the smell that came out of that carpet, ick. I will just let you imagine.

Now everything is fresh and new and I'm ultra paranoid. I'm going to require that people take of their shoes now. Yep, I'm going to be one of "those" people!

Yummy!

I have really always liked Gatorade. This started for me in my years of swimming because we were always given Gatorade and Power Bars (which I can't stand!) One of my favorite things is to get the fruit punch flavor and put it in the freezer till it gets slushy. I can't even begin to tell you how delicious that is to eat/drink on a hot summer day. Plus you get a nice red stained hue on your lips, just add some gloss and go!

Back to my point. I don't drink alot of Gatorade now cause I'm not an athlete AND they are ridiculously high in calories. That is, until I found the G2 version. These are soooo yummy! I have to say that that grape is my favorite and I typically hate grape flavored stuff, unless it's an actual grape. Even raisins are just disgusting humiliated grapes, but here I go straying again. These aren't as easy to freeze to a slushy state like the full Gatorades, but are delicious none the less. Go try them now!

*This blog post has not been sponsored in any way by Gatorade. If Gatorade is out there and would like to sponsor, this blog poster would not have a problem with that!

The Handy Man Can!

Sometimes my hubby does something that just blows me away. On this occasion it was by hooking up our ice maker! I know, that sounds so silly but we've had this fridge in the house for at least 9 years and it's never made ice. To be quite honest, ice trays just suck! Either the ice cracks apart or you go to get ice and they're empty. To know that I now can go into the freezer and get ice at any time is AMAZING. Plus, he did a really professional looking job which makes sense considering what he does for a living now. Needless to say I feel in love with him all over again at the first drop of ice.

New Phone

Today was an exciting day because in the mail I received a beautiful new phone! My Mom and I went in together on a family share plan since we seem to talk on our cell phones to each other the most and thought it might save on minutes. When I had Verizon last time I had the LG enV and I absolutely loved it! It was sooo nice to use for text messaging and I do love to send text messages. So, it was my first choice to go with this phone again. Even better is they released a new version called none other than the enV2. Even better is it comes in maroon! I absolutely love it. The changes that the made from the previous model were perfect. I know it's no iPhone, but to me this still feels like gold! Maroon colored gold that is!

Sonnet Sunday

This weeks entry just so happens to be the last poem that I wrote! It won't be the last featured poem, there are still alot more but it's the last one that is in the books. I wrote this poem about my current husband. Find happiness, and poetry goes right out the window! I wrote this poem less than two months after we met. I think I knew at the beginning that this was it.

Chapters

Have you looked in someone's eyes and seen forever?
One blink and the pages turn
to more chapters
you didn't even know were written.
More chapters
you want to keep writing.

Only these chapters don't have on author.
Can't be written alone.
You need those eyes.
Eyes that look at you,
look through you.
Flipping past
chapters and chapters
of history.
Chapters and chapters
of old fairy tales and dreams.
Till they find
unwritten territory.

A vast canvas of pages.
Pages no one else could fill,
but with one blink
your eyes meet
and the words begin to flow.

Filling all the blanks,
leaving no T uncrossed,
no I without a dot.
A story untold.
A story you didn't know what there.
Till you looked in those eyes
and saw your forever.

Bigger each day!

Whisky is getting bigger and bigger each day it seems. I took this picture of him this morning and really noticed that he's looking less and less like a little puppy. He's now in the gangly teenager phase. So far Whisky's leg problem comes and goes. He's been taking it easy, but still shows signs of a stiff walk. He goes to get fixed on Tuesday (say goodbye to the nuts) and will also get xrays so we can make sure there is nothing going on. Here are some fun facts about Whisky!

-Whisky is now sleeping until 7am, as long as he gets to spend the last hour on the bed.
-Whisky will not jump on the bed by himself and definitely will not jump down, he is afraid of heights.
-His favorite thing to chew on in the whole world is Bully Sticks. I'll let you figure out what those are!
-His favorite toy in the whole world is his "baby." It's a stuffed lab that looks like him, although it's missing all it's head stuffing now. Sometimes I think Whisky is as well!
-He is PETRIFIED of the following items: vacuum, card tables when being set up, men who wear large straw hats, nail clippers, baths and all things that go bump in the night. He is really kind of a baby.
-Whisky's favorite thing to do is lay by the screen door and look outside.
-Whisky loves to eat: strawberries, blueberries, cucumbers, edamame and catshit. Not necessarily in that order!

Vermin

The neighbors have a bit of a rat problem. When you go outside at night and turn on the light you will see at least 5-6 rats make a break for it. Some run across the wires into the trees while others run into the safety of their house...our neighbors roof. I tried to tell them about the rats, but they didn't seem to mind so I guess it just gives me some nighttime entertainment when I'm letting Whisky outside. Here is a rat I caught last night. Doesn't the red glowing eye make you want to cry "Eek" and hope up on your desk? Rats are icky!

All growed up!

It's been almost three years since Frances and I were matched through Big Brothers/Big Sisters. I can't believe that much time has gone by, but let me tell you I can definitely see in her how much time has gone by! When we first got matched she was just a young girl about to start her first year of junior high. Now, she is not so young and not so much a little girl and she's about to start her freshman year of high school! It's amazing how much someone grows up in high school. To me Frances is still 10 years old so every time I pick her up I have to remind myself that it is her. She's turning into a beautiful young woman. Don't I sound like a cheesy mom right there instead of the cool big sis I'm supposed to be? So, here you go. You can see for yourself. The picture above is actually a year after Frances and I got matched, the bottom is current. Scary....she's gorgeous!

Wine Car

I saw this cute car parked in front of the grocery store the other day. It was a car for a wine company and I just loved the bumper sticker on the back!

Click the link, click the link!

You really must click this link
http://www.sacbee.com/static/weblogs/ticket/archives/013999.html
...it would be so very cool if you did. Did you do it?

That's my hat! I donated it to the Sugarcube Society and it was featured in an article from The Sacramento Bee. Now that you have clicked the link you should also click the link to go to the Sugarcube Society and buy something. All proceeds, after Etsy fees, goes to juvenille diabetes.

My favorite tool!

I have a new tool that I am absolutely in love with because it helps me with my ring making. It's my new Dremel! Well, it's actually a used hand-me-down Dremel from my mom but it is new to me. The Dremel kicks ass and allows to me to smooth down the backs of my buttons with ease. It also allows me to make some really nice glass button rings! Glass was always tough because many times they would shatter when the backs were removed. Now I can make them with ease. I'm also finding other uses for it around the house...it's really a handy little tool to have.

Sonnet Sunday

Per my mom's request I'm going to include more "how this poem came about" before each Sonnet Sunday. Ok, maybe not each one. Some I may have to just throw out there and you the reader will have to wonder why I wrote it or who I wrote it about. This edition of Sonnet Sunday was written after I moved to Boston. See, when I was just a little girl I fell in love with a little boy that lived in Connecticut. I got it in my head that when I was out of highschool I would travel across the US and go to college in CT. Financially that didn't work out and said boyfriend dumped me anyway. Two years later when I was a much older and wiser 20 year old I knew that I still wanted to live on the East Coast. So, I sold most of my stuff and headed out to Boston knowing not a single person and not a single street. Aside from my trip out to find a place to live and a job I had never been there before. As you can imagine, most everyone thought I was crazy. There was not a ton of support, mom excluded...she was always very supportive. To this day moving out there was one of the best things I ever did in my life. This poem was written when I got there.

Surviving

Surviving alone,
truding through a wilderness
that I created.
Familiar streets,
faces,
friends
left behind.
All for a journey
into my identity,
my purpose.
Trudging on, for what?
What reason?
If I gave you a reason,
would it satisfy you?
Show you the view from my eyes.
Or, lead to reasons of your own.
Tell me the risks.
Tell me the problems.
Tell me the mistakes.
Only to turn the mirror on you.
Reflect the mistake,
living a life of what ifs.
What ifs,
What if.
What if I were a boy.
Would you support me?
Encourage me?
My rite of passage into manhood.
Instead, just a foolish girl
who struggles on.
Shaping a life.
Shaping my own destiny.
Show me the faults in that.
Continuing down the path,
myself,
my will power,
my independance
guiding the way.
Opening my eyes to prospects of change.
Change for the better?
Change for the worse?
I just want change.

Whisky's New Friend

Yesterday while in Davis Whisky got to meet another lab puppy. Maryann and Jeff's friend Paul has a 6 month old lab named Remington. These two had soo much fun together, but unfortunately we finally had to pry them apart to give Whisky some time to recoup. He's still having some trouble with his front legs, but will be getting an xray on the 29th to check things out. For those that don't know, Whisky had a bit of a limp around the 4th which we thought was just from stepping on a carpet tack. About a week later when I took him for a walk he started walking really stiff with both front legs. I call it his "Frankenstein" walk! He's gone to the vet and is now going to get some xrays to see what's going on inside. Please send out your well wishes vibes!!!

Bumper Crop!

Tonight we were out in Davis visiting the family and got to see the garden in full action! Most of the stuff out there wasn't ready the last few visits, but this time we had our bags in hand and harvested our hearts out. The garden this year is AMAZING! I think it's one of the best years that we've ever had and that credit goes to Maryann and Jeff who bust their butts out there most everyday to make sure it looks beautiful. In the garden you will find: lettuce, corn, squash of every variety, spinach, basil, tomatoes (a scary amount!), bell peppers, tomatillos, artichokes, cucumbers, green beans, watermelon, pumpkins, carrots, beets, peaches, nectarines, pumpkins, potatoes and this year experimental edition: horseradish! Each year Bill picks something different out and gives it a go. So far the horseradish seems to be doing great so we'll be sure to get pictures of him crying while he is preparing it!

In the garden you will also find a zillion different flowers! That leads me to my next picture. Sometimes you get a picture where you think, "I'm going to hang everything up and become a professional photographer." This was one of those picture moments, but I assure you that there are a zillion more pictures of the garden on Flickr so go and check them out!

Still got it!

This evening B and I were watching The VH-1 Rock Honors for The Who. Can I just say that when Eddie Vedder took the stage I got weak in the knees?! I absolutely loved that man when I was a teenage girl and boy, young love dies hard apparently.

Got Swap?

Thanks to some of my crafty buddies I have found yet another outlet to my crafting. It's simply called Swap-bot! On this site you can join swaps with people all over the world. You can sort the swaps by interest and only sign up yourself for swaps that interest you. I started with a newbie swap because well, I was a newbie! I ended up with a great craft book from the 1970's and a bunch of craft supplies. Then I did a button swap. This was the meca of all swaps for me and now I have some killer rings to make. I will definitely be partaking in more button swaps! I've also done a music swap, a book swap and a private swap with someone that wanted a button ring. This is fantastic! Fun stuff in the mail is always better than bills.

Ohh goodness!

I like chips, but on the other hand I'm not a chip junkie I have them occasionally, but there are very few chips where I could eat the whole bag. In fact I'd say Pringles are the only chip I've found. That was until today! I saw a bag of Cheetos Crunchy Cheesy Cheddar BBQ chips and had to give them a try. Thank goodness it was a small bag or I would be in a world of hurt. Thank goodness these are a limited edition chip or I would be an extra 20lbs! Go try them before they run out!

Shocking!

Yesterday Bill and I spent most of the evening in the emergency room. Bill suffers from a condition (which we thought was over) called Cyclic Vomiting Syndrome. I won't go into details on it, but I'm sure from the name you can conjure up some horrible images. So, while in the ER it is hard not to notice what everyone else is being brought in for. Especially when you are in curtained off rooms and the ER is packed! Around 11pm a little, approximately 6 year old, girl was brought in. This little girl was super cute with very curly blond hair all cinched up in a french braid. She even had her little pink pj's on. Apparently that morning she had stuck the toothbrush all the way into her throat and did some damage to her tonsils. She'd already been to the ER and been released, but her mom was concerned that the problem was worse. That's when the curls hit the fan so to speak.

This little girl DID NOT want the Dr. to look inside her mouth. She screamed and cried so much that finally the Dr. had to have the mom assist in holding the girl down. The whole time the Dr. was being super nice to the girl and trying to assure her that she didn't want to touch her throat, she only wanted to look inside. This girl was still not having it. Finally when the girl realized that crying and and wiggling wasn't enough, she tried another tactic.

"Get away from me you stupid bitch Doctor."

Suddenly, in just 8 little words the 6 year old girl wasn't so cute anymore!

Sonnet Sunday

To switch things up a bit I'm going to tell you a bit about the next poem. When I first started writing poetry (in about 7th grade) ALL of my poems rhymed. I loved myself a rhyme, and often thought when I grew up I'd work for Hallmark. As I aged a bit the poems stopped rhyming and were typically on heavier topics: love, loss, abuse, etc. Sometimes I just needed to lighten it up a bit though. What I would do it tell a friend to give me a topic and I would write about it. Even better was when they would give me something visual to work off of. The next poem happened in just that manner. I told my friend Brian to give me a topic. He told me to shut my eyes and when I opened them he had put a peanut on the bed.

Nut In A Cage

There's this nut,
oh what a nut.
It's hiding.
Trapped inside a tan
bumpy world.
Waiting for someone
waiting...
waiting...
wait...
don't crack so soon.
It's shell is coarse
but the nut inside
is soft and delicate.
Peanut in a cage.
Nut in a case.
Trapped in it's own prison.
Listen,
open your ears
to the needs of this nut.
Shhhhh,
closer
put your ear to the cage.
Hear its cries.
Eat me.

Just ask me!

One of my favorite things to do online is find information for people. I absolutely love myself a good Google search. So, when Becki told me about ChaCha I had to look it up online. What is ChaCha? Well, it's a way for you to be out and about with a question, send that question via text message to 242-242 and quickly get a response back with an answer! Trying to figure out where the closest place is to get pizza...ask ChaCha! Trying to figure out what Ferris Bueller's friends name was....ask ChaCha!

Thankfully when I looked online I noticed that you could apply to be a ChaCha guide. So I did, and after a couple tests I passed! I will now be an official guide and ready to answer the worlds toughest questions. ChaCha!

Adobe Photoshop Elements

My friend Debie was nice enough to let me check out her Adobe Photoshop Elements. Unfortunately, I must say that I have had this program for a while now and only JUST started playing around with it. Boy, it's tough! I just kind of haphazardly push buttons and think "Oh, that's what that does." Only problem is then I forget, so every button is a surprise every time! I messed around with a photo of Whisky (because who else would I mess around with) and I absolutely love how it came out. Now, I'm no Photoshop wiz or anything but it does amaze me how different you can make a basic photo look. From here on out photos of me will be flawless and I will be a size 5. Can Photoshop do that?!

Just call me red!

Well, I've done it again....I've changed my mind about my hair. I always felt like I had really fun hair! It's been many different colors and many different cuts. That was until I was about to get married. Although I still had nice hair...I would call it pretty hair. It was your typical long with blond highlights sort of hair. I liked it, but I got bored. I really wanted to grow my hair out to donate to Locks of Love, but I read that they just don't take bleached hair and let me tell you...that hair was bleached! So, with the 110 degree heat I decided it was time to go a little summer with the hair. I didn't take it too short because I "might" grow it out more in the winter. On the other hand, I did take it super red! I've been red before, and was actually born on the red side and I always have so much fun as a red. The red came out SUPER vibrant because of course I had so much blond to cover. I'm loving it, and feel 15 degrees cooler inside already. I have to give a big thanks to Shonda at Alley Cuts for doing such a great job!! You should check her and the other pictures of my hair out!

Sugar Cookies

My Grandpa Keith was an amazing cook and I was lucky enough to get his books of recipes. Last weekend I had the SCM over for a little craft night and decided to make his sugar cookie recipe. They were a sure hit, so I thought I would share it with all of you! Enjoy!

1/2 C butter
1/2 C shortening
1 C sugar
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla
2 1/4 C flour
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
sugar for rolling

Cream butter, shortening and sugar. Add egg and vanila, mix well. In mixing bowl combine flour, baking powder and baking soda. Gradually add to creamed mixture. Shape dough into 1" balls and roll in sugar. Place on cookie sheet and flatten with a drinking glass. Bake at 350 for 10-12 minutes. Now go try not to eat all three dozen that it will approximately make!

Pour some sugar on me!

Have you been to the Sugarcube Society yet? No?! Well, you better gets to gettin! This organization was started by Melody because her son was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. She set this group up to help raise awareness and money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. In her store you will find items from all sorts of wonderful crafty people and all proceeds (minus the etsy fees) goes to the foundation! How awesome is that?
Recently a bunch of us fostered some Sugar babies, which were plain little pin cushion dolls that we got to give life too and now they are available for adoption through the store! I had soo much fun creating mine and I'm so hopeful that one of the readers out there will go and adopt one of my babies right now. Punky and Betsy are looking for a good home....are you going to take them in?

Scary!

Sometimes we all encounter scary things. Maybe it's a spider on the wall, a loud noise in the middle of the night or a scary movie. I'm not a big scaredy cat myself, and typically only get myself scared on late nights when Bill is gone and I decide to watch a Ghost Hunters marathon. My dog on the other hand, well we can just call him a Mama's boy to be nice! Once Bill sprayed the hose on the sliding glass door while he was on the other side and it took two days to get him to go back through the slider. Luckily he had no problems with the fireworks. On the other hand, this is his reaction to the vacuum:

Keep in mind, he is not waiting to go out...he is simply hiding! It took him approximately 30 minutes AFTER the vacuum to go off and get put away that he came out and declared the house safe. I love how just his tail is sticking out in this picture....it's kind of like the fat guy hiding behind the skinny tree!

Sonnet Sunday

Today for Sonnet Sunday we are having a featured artist! Angel from the Sac Craft Mafia has a cute and funny daughter named Monkey, or Mari...ok really her name is Marianna Garcia. Last night she came over with this adorable book of poems that she made in her class and luckily for myself and you all she said I could post one for Sonnet Sunday! My favorite poem was one that I could totally relate to, and I'm sure you will agree!

I Meant To...
I meant to do my chores today
But Goosebumps are on,
and my friend dared me to play outside
and my step brother called from the navy
and I just had to have computer time.
I meant to do my chores today
But more important things got in my way.

Not quite enchanted..........

Boy, I am not having luck in the movie department lately! Maybe I think I'm in the mood the mood to watch movies but I'm not? I don't know what the case is. The other day Bill and I started watching a movie called "Strange Wilderness." We managed about 40 minutes and had to turn it off. Want to know what the kicker is? It was another Adam Sandler production! I'm convinced that guy has lost his ever loving mind.

Today, I'm in the midst of "Enchanted." I get, it's cutesy, it's Disney....but oh my gosh if I have to listen to another minute of Amy Adams putting on a squeekie princess voice I'm going hit myself over the head with a frying pan. Can't a girl just watch a good movie without wanting to throw her fist into the tv?!

We be jammin!

My lovely friend Debie came by my house yesterday with some yummy and fun deliveries. First, she brought me Adobe Photoshop Elements! I can't wait to play around with it, get frustrated and quit using it! She also brought me some homemade strawberry jam. This morning I made some toast and slathered the jam on top. Oh my gosh, I put that toast in my mouth and it was like heaven. Now, I can't quit thinking about it! I'm thinking maybe it's laced with drugs and now I'm going to become addicted to it and go through withdrawals when strawberry season closes! The other thing that makes this jam incredible is her kids make it with her husband. How cute is that? I'll let you think that over while I go and get more jam!
