Shop to keep warm!

Well, the verdict is in.....the winter garage sale is the BEST THING EVER! I don't know if it's the lack of competition of if people need to spend money to keep warm, but I made more money in my four hour garage sale than I ever have. It's official....I will never have a summer garage sale again, they are so overrated!

Young at Heart

Last night I watched a movie that touched me more than any other movie has in a long long time. It was a documentary called "Young at Heart." If you haven't seen this movie yet I highly suggest that you go out and rent it or buy it right now. It's the story of a group of senior citizens who come together to form a choir, performing songs by James Brown, Sonic Youth and much much more. The average age of the choir members is 81! I laughed in this movie, I cried in this movie and then I cried a little more. This is definitely one of my favorite films of all time. I will never hear the song "Fix You" by Coldplay in the same way again. I think I'm weeping a little right now...

I'm a steampunk!

For Christmas my girlfriend RP got me the coolest necklace that another friend of ours named Laura made. It's called steampunk jewelry and I must admit I had never heard of it before now.
It is quite simply a watch that has been dissected and now it's inner parts are on the outside. There is something so elegant and rough about it. Then to make things even better RP got me a ring for my birthday!
The ring was made by someone else, but is the same concept. I absolutely love it! I have closed up the jewelry cabinet (yes it is a cabinet) and wear these pieces everyday. I just can't get enough of the watch jewelry.

The Wii Fit Biggest Loser Challenge!!!

I got a great idea from my girlfriend Katie to get fit with the Wii fit. She and her husband were going to start a little Wii fit challenge and I thought, heck...why not get the whole world involved. By whole world I mean all 40 something of you that read my blog of course. You are my world.

So, here's the rules:

1. You must use the Wii fit as your means of working out. No gyms, no personal trainers, just the Wii fit.
2. You can incorporate your Wii fit workouts in with a healthy diet.
3. You must submit your weekly weigh in numbers to me no later than Sunday at 10pm pacific time. You will do this by sending me how much you currently weigh and two pictures. One will be the Wii fit calendar so I know that you are actually using the Wii fit. It looks something like this. You also need to send me a pic of your weight progress graph, it looks something like this. You will send all of these to me via email to staceyball(at)gmail(dot)com. I will keep all of this information discreet unless you tell me I can post it. That is entirely up to you. I'm not here to embarass anyone on the blog...just here to celebrate getting fit!
4. Be honest, we're all good people and honesty is the best policy for this challenge.

Now here is how it's going to work. This challenge is going to start on Sunday February 1st and will run for three months total. Your last weigh in will be submitted to me Sunday May 3rd and the winner will be announced on May 4th. The biggest loser will be the person that loses the biggest percentage of body weight in the three months. For example. If your starting weight was 200 and you lose 30lbs then your total percentage of body weight lost will be 15%. This makes it more fair than doing it by your total number of pounds lost since we all have different amounts to lose. Each week I will post each contestants percentages on the blog so we can all keep track of where we are. Gosh I hope that makes sense...if not then watch an episode of the Biggest Loser perhaps!

Now, there's one more piece. You're going to have to give a little to get a lot in this Wii Fit Challenge. Each contestant agrees to pay the winner $1 per pound lost. So, if there are 15 contestants, and the winner loses 20 pounds total.....it will cost each contestant $20. The winner on the other hand will walk away with $300!!! This will help go towards the new pants they need to buy since they lost 20lbs or whatever else they want to spend it on. But wait....there is more!! In addition, the winner will also take home an extra $100 bonus!! How's that for incentive?

So, if you want to play the game and be a contestant on the Wii Fit Biggest Loser Challenge you need to leave a comment on this blog declaring the following:

"I, (your name here), declare that I want to be the Biggest Wii Fit Loser!"

You also need to email me at staceyball(at)gmail(dot)com your name, your starting weight, a goal weight if you have one and the picture of your Wii Fit graph so I can verify your starting weight. There is no limit to the number of contestants and you can live anywhere to play. All entries need to be submitted no later than 10pm on Sunday February 1st.

Good luck and I hope you take the Wii Fit Challenge!!

Ahhhhhh.....

On Saturday I went with my good friend Wendy to get a facial. If you've never had a facial before...it's a must. I had my facial done at a beauty school and it was pretty good. It would have been better if I wasn't coughing my brains out, but we can't always get what we want! No, I didn't cough too bad actually, but when that steam machine came on I could not breath out of my nose AT ALL so I'm sure I looked like an idiot with my mouth gaping open the whole time. On Friday I go back and get a body wrap. A body wrap that is supposed to make me three inches smaller. A body wrap that I will be dieting for the rest of this week so I will be three inches smaller by the time I go in there and expose my naked body. Maybe that's how you actually lose the three inches!

To sell or not to sell...

Since the hubby is gone I am currently experiencing the great clean out of 09. I've been scouring the house from top to bottom and cleaning out junk. Actually, I'm cleaning out some really nice stuff. I just feel like I have too much right now. Does one really need three pairs of the same Gap pants that one never wears and only bought cause they were on sale? NO! See, when I stopped buying as much stuff (I have cheated a time or two) it also made me evaluate what I have. What I have is too much. This weekend I spent way to much time taking pictures and selling things on Craigslist, which is still an on going process. I know there is going to be a bunch of stuff that doesn't sell. So, I was thinking a garage sale. A garage sale in January. Is that even possible? It's not supposed to rain this weekend and is supposed to be in the mid 60's with sun. Still, will anyone come to a garage sale in January??

What do you think....please chime in!

I'm still Lost!

Lost is back. The season premiere was on Wednesday and I have to say that I'm still feeling really lost. I love this show, but it's been so long since it was last on that I don't feel like I have a clue what is going on. Add that to the confusion within the show and the constant plot questions and I feel like I'm in a maze. I still love the show, but I don't really want to be lost for much longer. I need answers soon please.

Guess what....

else is sick? My new camera! Yeah, I know I told you before that the flash wasn't working. Well, now the whole thing isn't working. So, it's going back in the box. The new camera that is supposed to replace it, well it's on back order. Maybe I'm not meant to have a camera. Maybe all of my blog posts should remain photoless.

Not again!

If this illness continues any longer in my house we are going to have to install this street sign out front!

Here a rock, there a rock, everywhere a rock rock.

The hubby is on a business trip in the four corners area, otherwise known as the middle of no where. A land full of rocks like this....

This is actually called Shiprock and is a pretty well known place in New Mexico. To me it just looks creepy. I feel like aliens are peeking at me from the other side when I look at it.

Oh jeez!

Heaven help us when this releases!

I'd like to take this time to go ahead and apologize to my neighbors in advance for the ruckus that this game is going to cause my household.

Easy Rider Show

One other thing that I did for my birthday was go to the Easy Rider bike show. The hubby and I went to check out the bikes and say hello to my friend Kim and her bf RJ. It was also a GREAT place to bust out my camera and take some pictures as if I'm a professional photographer. The bikes really were amazing and ranged from simple and classic to crazy and extreme. I appreciated both, some of the paint schemes were amazing, but if I had a pic I would go with the simple and classic. My favorite bike was this one...

On a side and very sad note, my camera is not working correctly. Man oh man, do I have bad luck with cameras as of late. The flash will not pop up and although I try to avoid using the flash at all costs there are times when it has to be done. So, the camera is shipping back and a new one is on it's way. Hopefully I'll have better luck this time around.

Happy Birthday to Me!

Well today I am officially 33. Although if you really think about it, I've already completed my 33rd year and am crawling into 34 beginning today. OK, let's just stick with me being 33 and forget that I even said that!

Already my b-day is off to a bang. I had a delicious meal of chicken fried steak, blue cheese mashed potatoes and broccoli for dinner last night followed by a Baskin Robbins ice cream cake. I got my cute little discount card for Anthropologie, I get a free cone at Coldstone and there is a fancy new camera lense coming in the mail soon! Tonight I'll have dinner with my friends/family at Celestins and will grub on jambalaya and sangria. Probably more sangria than jambalaya!

Also, I got the coolest thing in the mail yesterday from my Grandma in Texas. While I was there visiting she told me and showed me a 50 states quarter collection that she was starting for me. Actually, she was almost done and only needed a couple more quarters to complete it. For those of you that don't live in the US (hi Carol!), in 1999 (I think) they started releasing quarters that had each state on them and each one had a theme. They were cool, but I never thought about collecting them. I'm so glad that my Grandma did! There are so many quarters in there that I hadn't seen and some of them did a really good job. Thanks Grandma!
So, it's only 11:13am and the b-day is already off to a great start. I can't wait for the rest of the day!

Ridiculous!

If you don't know the store Anthropologie, you should check it out. It's gorgeous. Super cute clothes and super cute housewares. Last time I was at an Anthro I signed up for their free membership which notifies me of specials and such. Then yesterday this little cutie came in the mail.
Cute already isn't it? I mean, I love buttons so I was already intrigued. Then I unbuttoned it....
More buttons! And some thread...it's a little sewing kit. But wait, what's that little card that says "Celebrate!" on it?
It's a card for 15% off one entire purchase for the month of January for my birthday! Woo hoo! Wait, I'm on a shopping freeze. I might have to break it, I'm sorry. There are some really cute owl salt and pepper shakers that I've wanted from there forever and I think I will go get them. Thanks Anthro, you really have your marketing down pat!

Surrounded by death!

Ok, that's a little melodramatic. Twice now I have gone out in the morning to find a dead squirrel on my lawn. It's hard to be faced with death first thing in the morning. I know I've had my struggles with the squirrels, and sometimes wish bad things upon them but I really don't want to find them dead in the morning. What's killing the squirrels?!

Aren't you glad I didn't break out the new camera for an early morning dead squirrel photo??

Sweets for your sweets!

IndieSac will be back in Feb, just in time for you to stock up on stuff for the sweetie in your life! I'll be there pedaling my wares. I might even have some fun knew stuff for the Valentine's holiday.

Wreck on turn 2!

For many many years I have wanted to get the hubby a Nascar cake for his bday. I've done the simple "racing" theme cake at Baskin and Robbins, but I really wanted something that was shaped like the car of his favorite driver...Greg Biffle. Something that looked like this:Now I know this has alot of sponsorship detail, but I didn't need all of that...just the main sponsor, paint scheme and number. If you have ever watched Ace of Cakes, you'll know what I was looking for. Unfortunately there aren't any bakeries like that in Sacramento. So, I headed to the bay area seeking a baker and was met with a bunch of red stop signs. When I was about to give up I had a last minute idea.....check Craigslist. Now I know I should have put my own brakes on with that notion, but I went into it with gusto and started looking for bakers that do shapes. There turned out to be 5, one of which has a website with pictures. So I hired her.

Leading up to picking up this cake I was certain that it was going to be a disaster. I figured if it was too bad I would bash it in and flip it on it's side and call it a wrecked car....literally. When I went to pick it up all I could do was smile and kind of giggly. She asked if I like it and I told her I did....cause it sure wasn't as bad as I had pictured it would be. Then again, it was pretty bad. Needless to say that cake got alot of attention through the night, but the biggest debate was, "When did Saab or Volkswagon start sponsoring Nascar with hatchbacks?!"

Shocking!

In the morning I listen to the radio while I'm taking a shower and getting ready. Last week I noticed an ad on the radio and I thought it had to be a joke. Unfortunately I have now learned it is not. The advertisement is for a website called Ashley Madison. It's a website I refuse to attach a picture to OR create a link for.....although I know you can easily figure it out on your own and check it out. This website is for husbands or wives that are looking for a discreet affair. Yep, it's the Match.com for married people. I mean I know that if people are going to cheat they are going to do it whether there is a website or not. I just don't feel good about it being advertised or made easier. All I can do is hope that none of my PillsPlace readers are using this service.....and if you are then I don't want to hear about it! I guess that is why it's called discreet. Yuck!

Crazy with the Mad Libs!

I had fun with the little Mad Lib contest. Got a total of 4 entries, one of which was a bit late. I've been laughing about them all morning though. For that very reason, I simply cannot pick one winner! So.....Carol, Debie, Kim and Mom on Coulee.....you are all the winners of a Mad Lib prize pack. Even though I know most of you, please email me your mailing address staceyball at gmail dot com. Cause actually, even though I know most of you, I don't think I have your current mailing address! Of course I want to share all the Mad Lib stories with you so grab a seat and have fun reading. The title of the stories is "How to Find Food and Water in the Jungle."

Taking a trip to an exotic jungle can be very glittery. But what happens if a dog steals all your food and water? Instead of getting stuck eating plants and drinking orange juice, you'll need to find food and water slowly! Look for cupcakes or an apple tree and run it down. Scoop out the center of the tree's toast; the roots will then refill the stump with gasoline for about 14 days. you can also look for a river or a purse, but make sure it's a freshwater stream or else you will get small and shout "Poot!" When you get hungry, you can look for snakes and orangutans under logs or tree stumps. Pinch their bums off, and then take a big bite. Bon appetit!

Taking a trip to an exotic jungle can be very seductive. But what happens if a wombat steals all your food and water? Instead of getting stuck eating cacti and drinking syrup, you'll need to find food and water boldly! Look for burritos or a chicken nugget tree and run it down. Scoop out the center of the trees unicorn; the roots will then refill the stump with vodka for about 7 days. You can also look for a river or a flashlight, but make sure it's a freshwater stream or else you will get big and shout "Heeonk!" When you get hungry, you can look for llamas and crickets under logs or tree stumps. Pinch their toes off and then take a big bite. Bon appetit!

Taking a trip to an exotic jungle can be very brown. But what happens if an elephant steals all your food and water? Instead of getting stuck eating weeds and drinking oil, you'll need to find food and water bubbly! Look for brownies or a pizza tree and jump it down. Scoop out the center of the tree's television; the roots will then refill the stump with saliva for about 15 days. You can also look for a river or table, but make sure it's a freshwater stream or else you will get ridiculous and shout "Boink!" When you get hungry, you can look for trees and flowers under logs or tree stumps. Pinch their feet off and then take a big bite. Bon appetit!

Taking a trip to an exotic jungle can be very cranky. But what happens if a moose steals all your food and water? Instead of getting stuck eating babies and drinking gasoline, you'll need to find food and water sheepishly! Look for candy canes or a cauliflower tree and dance it down. Scoop out the center of the tree's tire; the roots will then refill the stump with breast milk for about 8 days. You can also look for a river or a corkscrew, but make sure it's a freshwater stream or else you will get nasty and shout "Hee Haw!" When you get hungry, you can look for starfish and hookers under logs or tree stumps. Pinch their belly buttons off and then take a big bite. Bon appetit!

Happy Birthday B!

Today was the hubby's bday and this year I planned a beer brewing party for him. There's a brewery called Brew It Up that does this and it's something we've wanted to do for a while. It was a good time, although I think it would the group of peeps that made it even better! There's alot of steps in beer brewing so at times there is not much relaxing to be had because you are weighing grain, stirring the brew and squeezing the sacks. Sounds kinky doesn't it?! There are a ton of great pictures on Flickr that you can check out.

After brewing beer we walked down to The Torch Club. This was the first time I'd ever been there and BOY was it an experience. They had live music, which was very good. There are some interesting people in that place. I definitely would go again, but feel like I need to dress a bit differently. Plus, I wasn't feeling well so the whole time I was a bit off. Lots of bikers in there, even met a woman named "Crazy Bitch." No lie, that is what she called herself and from the looks of her (and the interesting conversation I overhead from her in the bathroom about a three way with a guy named Rooster) I don't question the name one bit.

Needless to say it was a bday party that will go down in the history books. Thanks to all of you that came out!

Mad Lib

I have always been a huge fan of Mad Libs. When I was younger I had a couple friends I would do these with all the time and the hilarity would ensue. It's so ridiculous how just adding a couple words can be soo funny. It's one of those simple things that as an adult I don't do enough. For Christmas my girlfriend Kim got me a Mad Lib calendar and I make my friends do these with me each day. It's stupid, and it's fun. That's why I thought I would get you involved! We're going to do a blog Mad Lib! I'm going to give you all the words that I need in order, you then leave your words in a comment on the blog. Remember, you need to leave all 17 in order. Whoever has the funniest story at the end will win a fun Mad Lib prize set! The deadline to submit is Saturday at 10pm. On Sunday I will reveal the winning story. Good luck and let's let the hilarity ensue!

I love my dog!

As you've already assumed from previous posts, I love my dog. He's like my kid since I don't have kids. I like taking pictures of him, I like posting pictures online. I saw something yesterday though that made me ask, "Do I really love my dog enough to do that?"

Birthday Cake

Since Monday was Judy's bday I made her a bday cake. Her favorites were either German Chocolate or just plain old chocolate. There is a chocolate cake that I used to make back when I was in the biz so I decided to go with that. To jazz it up I made the German Chocolate Cake topping, but used it as a filling. The combination was to die for! The cake was super tall and sooo deliciously rich. Try not to lick the screen when you are checking out the pictures, and if you do make sure you have a tall glass of milk handy!

Budding artist!

Whenever I find someone whose art I truly enjoy I try to share it with as many as I can. That might be sharing it on the blog or trying to get that person involved in a show. It just all comes down to supporting the local artists and watching them grow. That is no different when the artist is 9 years old! My co-worker Judy has a grandson named Jake who is quite a piece of work. I'm always guaranteed to get a good chuckle whenever Judy tells a story about Jake. Yesterday was Judy's birthday and Jake gave her a piece of art that he did in class. Not only is this art fantastic, especially from a 9 year old, it is also hilarious.

Let's just begin with the fact that it is the Grinch. I love the Grinch, he is my favorite holiday character of all time. Then you have him in a suit, smoking a pipe. Soo cute. Top that with the blurb in the corner. If you're having trouble reading it in the above picture, here it is bigger. Yes, it says "Get me out of this rathole." How classic is that! Too funny and perfect for the overall tone of the picture. Like a true artist, Jake even charged his own grandma $5 to sign the art! It just doesn't get much better than that!

Keep up the good work Jake!

Say it ain't so!

On one of my recent shopping trips, that happened before the Great Give Up of course, I spotted something that made me gag, shiver and laugh all at the same time. One of the signs for me that I am getting older is seeing trends of my youth revisited. It makes me reminisce and makes me sad all at the same time. Now, some of the trends are fine and look cute on those youngins out there. Others I feel should never be revisited. For example...

Does the colored acid washed tight stretchy denim really need to make a comeback? I mean, if you aren't into pink you can see that there is purple option to the left and a green option to the right. Oh, they also come in black too if you are more conservative with your acid washed denim. I'm disturbed and old, so very disturbed and old.

Back to Normal

As much as I like having the Christmas stuff out, and the glow of the Christmas tree it is also wonderful when it all gets put away. It makes the house feel so much less cluttered. Whisky was very happy as well. He has a favorite place to sit in the house, and unfortunately that seat was moved into the bedroom to make room for the Christmas tree. The moment the "frog chair" was moved back into the living room he was in hog heaven.....or frog heaven perhaps! As for me, I couldn't resist the wonderful photo opportunity it created.

Snappin pics.....

I am totally addicted to taking pictures with the new camera. I'm still trying to figure out the best way to carry it around, but I have managed to take it everywhere with me. I've taken alot of pictures of Whisky and of a variety of food that I've made this weekend. Last night I took it out on the town with me and took what is my favorite picture thus far.

I don't know what it is about it exactly. First I LOVE the neon lights. I love how one drink is in focus and one is out. I love how I just sat the camera on the bar and hit click without even looking through the viewfinder. Man I love my new camera!

What a ham!

For New Years I made my first ham. I went with the Alton Brown City Ham recipe, because I love Alton Brown. He's the coolest cooking geek out there and has some really good recipes. This ham was baked, the fat was removed and then it was rubbed down with mustard, sprinkled with brown sugar, sprayed with bourbon and sprinkled with gingersnaps. Then it was shoved into our mouths. Sooooooooooo good!

And finally......

The last thing I'll be giving up is shopping. I did this last year for the month of November and it worked out really well and even trickled into other months. Then I started walking and driving and the shops started calling my name again. I really feel like I have everything that I could possibly want so it's time for a big cut back again. My plan for this one is to do three months, and then just pay more attention to what I am buying for the rest of the year. So, for the next three months I won't be buying any: clothes, shoes, makeup, magazines, books, music, purses, etc, etc, etc. The general idea is if I don't need it, I'm not buying it. I mean, if I run out of deodorant then I'm definitely going to get some....but if heavy blue eyeliner comes back in style then I'm just going to have to stick to my black and brown. This is going to be another tough one. It means no trips to Target. There is never anything that I need in Target, but always things I can buy. So, that pretty much sums up the Great Giveup of 2009. Wish me luck and prepare for some blog posts about me bitching that I really want to buy something and drink a soda!
