Don't you step on my black suede shoes!

There is something that I really really miss since the knee has been messed up. I live with most of it, but every time I go out shopping I am reminded of one thing. My lack of heel wearing ability. I know this is weird coming from someone that is 5'10" with bare feet...but boy did I love rocking some high heels. This weekend while I was in Truckee I found the cutest wedge shoes. Some wedges I can pull off..but most of the time they are still a bit too sloped on the inside. I decided to try on the wedges anyway and guess what? They are AWESOME! With a super rocking heel they still feel like a flat on the inside. Now, don't get me wrong...I won't be wearing these around everyday but for a night out on the town they will be my new best friend. Well, a night on the town that involves mostly sitting!

Laaaaaaazy....

A friend of the family recently started putting his tiling skills to work on a new project. He's making lazy susans. Some of the family have them and I had to get my hands on one. I remember my grandma always had a lazy susan on the table and boy are they handy when you need the pepper! I asked if he could do either a dog, fish or horseshoe. He went with the horseshoe and used an actual horseshoe in the middle. I love it! It now sites happily on my dining room table waiting for someone lazy to come along!

All good things come to an end.....

Unfortunately the cabin trip blew by and Stoned Jesus and Al knew that the party in California was coming to an end. They were adamant that they could not leave the cabin without doing one more thing. So, while we busted our butts and packed up these two freeloaders spent the morning lounging in the hot tub. A good time was had by all at the Donner Lake cabin. I'm sure I speak for everyone when I say that I'm going to miss Stoned Jesus and Al when they head back up North. I hope they'll be able to join us again!

Buddies for Life

No matter how upset Al was the night before, he wasn't showing it. What he was showing was the fact that no matter how smart of a guy Al may be, he just can't hold his liquor. Luckily he had his best buddy Stoned Jesus there to hold his hair back. With his system cleared out and a little "hair of the dog" these two were rip roaring and ready to go out and take in the Donner Lake sites. Their first outing was to play in the snow! They made a snowman...Tried making a couple snow angels....And had a little snowball fight...After all the snow fun Stoned Jesus and Al decided to have a little fun of the animal variety. None of us even knew that there was a farm close and got a little suspicious at the suggestion of animal fun. Little did we know the Donner cabin had it's very own farm! Stoned Jesus got a little wild with the pigs. While Al took a more relaxing route with a nice horseback ride at sunset. What we thought was going to be a relaxing cabin trip tuned into a whirl wind of activity with Stoned Al and Jesus around!

Donner Lake or Bust!

Today we set off to Donner Lake for a weekend trip in a cabin. This trip was made even more special by a couple visitors from Washington that decided to go with us...Al and Stoned Jesus.

When we arrived at the cabin the first task was deciding where to sleep. Al and Stoned Jesus are a couple of freeloaders and weren't paying for their portion of the cabin so they got stuck in the bunk roomAl was not too happy about getting stuck with the bottom bunk, but he knows that you can't really argue with Jesus. What Jesus wants, Jesus gets. What Jesus wanted next was to get the party started!
Luckily Al had made a Costco run and purchased the largest Bacardi bottle he could find. Within minutes the two were boozing it up something heavy and over half of the bottle was gone. It got a little chilly outside, so the two headed inside for some time by the fire.
Stoned Jesus always travels with his guitar and with a little Bacardi flowing he was belting out the tunes to Al. All was fine until SJ wrapped it up with "More than Words." Al has known Stoned Jesus long enough to know that once the Extreme songs start SJ is in a randy mood.Stoned Jesus made a pass at Al and a serious fight broke out. Al stumbled down the stairs and holed up in the bunk room all night. None of us really knew how it was going to work out with these two the next day....

Board Games?

This weekend we're heading up to Donner Lake for a weekend cabin extravaganza. It's our friend Eric's b-day so we're going to celebrate in style on a lake in a hot tub. Oh yeah! A cabin isn't perfect without some good board games. So, I come to you dear blog readers. Most of you stay very quiet out there, but now is your time to speak up.

What's your favorite board game? Leave me a comment by 10pm PCT tonight, March 26th, and when I get back on Sunday one person will be drawn at random and will win a board game!

Ahhh Spring

Nothing says spring quite like a bright blue skirt showing off two aced up knees and a wrapped up toe! Can't wait to see what the signs of summer are!

A girl walks into E/R....

Now, haven't we heard this one before? Last night I fell, of course while I was home alone. I banged up the arm and the shoulder on a table, but the main concern was the knee. Imagine that! I twisted it and then landed on it and then almost fainted on the floor. I then spent the next 30 minutes deciding if I needed to go get it looked out. I ran through the checks: I could walk, I could put weight on it, but I had quite a bit of pain trying to stand up and just a dull ache overall. So, I took myself to the E/R.

What the F is up with people in the E/R? Is it the new dive hangout? Is it where people are now holding their family reunions? How many people does one really need to take with them to the E/R to feel comfortable? First off, the place was packed to the gills with people that did need treatment. Then there were all of those that were there because I guess they just felt like hanging out in a waiting room for a couple hours. You should have seen the look on the face of the nurse when I told her I didn't have anyone there with me to help push the wheelchair down the hall! I was definitely the lone man standing, or sitting for that matter.

To sum the knee up, who knows. The xrays are clean thank heavens. The Dr. recommended that I head back to the ortho and get an MRI because I could have torn anything. I can assure you that is NOT going to happen. For now I'm going to just deal with it and see how it feels in a couple weeks. It may just be scar tissue that got tore up. What it comes down to is even if something is torn no one will go near it with a 10 foot pole at this point without causing me to never walk again. This is my life in regards to the knee. It's frustrating and it's kind of sad. Maybe they also have an ace bandage they can wrap around my heart.

Summer Feet

On Friday I had the dreaded toenail removed. Well, not the whole thing...just about 20%. Although numbing the toe is not very fun the entire thing wasn't so bad and easier than the first time. This time they treated it so the nail should not come back. Hopefully this doesn't end up looking too weird, but I didn't want to risk going through this a third time. For now, these are what my summer feet will look like...
There's nothing that says "Hello Summer" like a freshly gauzed big toe!

Photo Collage

When I painted our room a while back I put some different art on the wall. As much as I liked it, it was kind of boring. The wall is weird because of a window on one side which makes everything look like it is hanging off center. So, I figured I'd go with a random photo collage. I started adding new pieces that I found on Etsy or from friends. Last night we went to a concert in Berkeley and they had an amazing concert poster. With all of them on the wall it's finally looking pretty slick. I do want to add a couple more pieces though.

Oh Buttons!

Almost a year ago I went to a b-day party for our friend Erick's son Luca. While there I chatted with Erick's mom Nancy about what I was doing to keep myself occupied since I was still off work at the time. I started telling her about my knitting and jewelry and Bouton Blue. She asked where I got my buttons, which at the time I was getting primarily from antique stores and Ebay. She then told me that she has a trunk FULL of her Grandmother's buttons. Apparently her Grandmother had an antique store in her house and she was very fond of buttons. She would sew them all on cards and keep them in a trunk and now Nancy had the trunk. She said she would get some buttons out for me and bring them next time she was in town for a visit. Holy bejezzus, I got the buttons yesterday. They are AMAZING! One button is over 3 inches in size! I would never have found buttons this cool on my own and can't believe how generous Nancy was to give these to me. These pictures do them no justice, but the items that I make with them definitely will!

Oh Google.

Google is by far one of my favorite things to hit the Internet. They are always coming out with the coolest gadgets and you just can't beat that search engine. I also love with they change their icon on the home page to reflect the season or the day. Today's has to be my favorite of all time.
Google is celebrating the first day of spring with Eric Carle the writer of "The Very Hungry Caterpillar." This is such a great book, as are many of Eric's. My other big favorite is "The Grouchy Ladybug." If you haven't read this books I highly suggest that you check them out. Especially if you have kiddos around the house.

I think right now I feel like the very hungry caterpillar. I'm hoping that by the end of the day I will be a beautiful butterfly.

Holy Snikes!

It was revealed to me earlier this week some pertinent information about a particular bearded gentleman that I am extremely fond of. Yep, it's Ray. He's coming, again. Only this time it's on a much grander scale. Ray will be playing at the Hollywood Bowl with the Los Angeles Phil Harmonic. Know what that means?

Lovely lady lumps.

Yesterday was a crazy day filled with St. Patty's day madness. When I got to work in the morning I thought I'd check out the ol' stat counter to see how my blog traffic was looking. It's been increasing as of late and I was curious to see if I was still keeping people interested. Boy was it a surprise when I check it that there were already 167 hits. I know I don't have a huge blog so this to me felt like the entire world had logged onto PillsPlace. I got excited. I thought to myself, "Wow, I must be somewhat interesting." Then I panicked. I had just posted the pic of myself with big juicy kool-aid lips and I was a tad bit embarrassed that I allowed myself to put that picture up. I then decided to see where all these hits were coming from. What was making my blog so enticing. Turns out, it was this....A picture I posted in 2007. One that I had thought funny because it was the first image that popped up when I searched Happy St. Patrick's Day on Google images (no, that's not me..sorry.) Now, back in 2007 it didn't cause much of a stir. Yesterday however the day capped out with over 500 blog hits. Poor people, got enticed in with a large rack and then found out that the rest of the blog was just about new tablecloths and knitting. It must have been a huge disappointment. I guess the world has just spoken and they are saying that PillsPlace needs more boobs.

Changing like the seasons.

If you haven't picked up on it already....I like to change my hair. I get bored. Most people get bored and find an activity...I think, "What would I look like with a perm?" Yes, I have done that. Gotten a perm out of boredom. Typically I hack off all my hair or change the color. For the first time since I was a little kid I reaaaaallly want long hair. So, that leaves one option since I'm not getting a perm. Color. Now most go light in the summer and dark in the winter. Not me, that would be to easy. I got bored with the blond so I had my friend Grimmslee color it dark. Dark rich chocolate brown. Now keep in mind I haaaaate this picture. My lips look like they are oozing kool aid. I do like the hair though. Don't worry if you don't like it, I change my hair more than the California seasons change.

March Madness

Today the teams for March Madness have been locked into place. I'm excited because I'm participating in a fantasy tournament this year. I've done this in the past both with a group and with Bill. Here is what makes it kind of fun....I don't really watch basketball. I mean, I like it when it's on but I by no means turn games on for fun. In fact, I really know nothing about the college teams. When I participate in these challenges I go full girl style. I pick using one of two methods. First, I pick teams that are in states I've been to. If that doesn't work out I go with the back up plan....best mascot. Ridiculous I know, but you would be surprised how many times I've won with this method. Watch out!

Baby Beehive

After making the baby cadet hat I got super jazzed to do another baby hat. Delaney was such a cutie pie model I knew she needed a hat of her very own. Ohhh, how right I was. Prepare yourself.

I'm calling this the baby beehive and it will definitely be going in my Etsy shop this week. It's adorable and my new top model Delaney will ensure it sells like hot cakes!

Come dine with me!

We've had our dining room table for a while now, and the biggest struggle was finding chairs. Chairs that didn't cost a fortune but looked good. That's a much higher task than I thought it would be! Since we got the table we've had two little random chairs and card table chairs, but I've been determined to replace them with nice chairs...that match. Thanks to Craigslist I've done just that!

The chairs were a GREAAAT price and are like new. Plus they are just what I was looking for. So now I am in love with Craigslist again, but only as a buyer...I'm still not sold on it as a seller.

Just the way I like it....

I decided when I got the fancy camera that I was going to need a great camera bag/purse to carry it in. I wanted something that I could use as a day to day purse, but it would hold the camera body and maybe a lense or two. I looked online and to my dismay everything was ugly. Sorry, just being honest. Actually, not all of them were really ugly but they encompassed two categories: backpack or messenger bag. I didn't want either. So, I did the next best thing....I commissioned my mom to make me one. The beauty of this is I get to pick out fabric and constantly am throwing other custom things at her. Oh, can we put a hook in it to hold the keys? Oh, do you think you can make a camera strap that matches? Oh, can we make the camera pouches removable so I don't always have to carry the camera? (that as actually mom's idea though!)

Now the purse is in the works and the fabric is picked out. That was probably the funnest part because there is some CUTE fabric out there. I went with this for the body of the bag:

And this for the inside:
It looks adorable already and we're just looking at pictures of fabric! Now, I just need to replace the fancy camera and we're set. It's been a never ending battle, but hopefully it's all over now and a fancy camera that works will show up any time now. Hopefully....

Keeping it warm!

There is something that I never do. I don't purchase knitting. Makes sense really. The funny thing is I never really make myself knitting either. All my stuff either gets sold or goes to friends. Recently I spotted a chunky cowl on Etsy and I decided that I really wanted it. The maker is Crazy Jane Knits and she has some amazing stuff in her shop. I custom ordered my cowl in black and blue and I love it. It's super soft and snuggly. Plus I can either wear it loose around my neck or I can use a pin and snug it up if it's a chillier day like today...

Look at that focus. Actually what you are looking at is waking up 20 minutes before needing to leave for work! Let me also point out the lovely 70's vibe of this photo. I played around with it using Picnik and love this effect. There's just something about the yellow hue and the rounded corners!

Wee Cadet

I got commissioned to do a baby hat for some girlfriends recently. They wanted a cute hat that was a little cutting edge. We found a TON of cute patterns...but most of them were for crochet. Finally we came across a pattern that was called the "Cadet Hat." The ending result was SUPER cute. Here is beautiful baby Delaney modeling the hat for us.

Now, I must make a hat for Delaney because she looks so cute in them! She's definitely going to be my baby hat model from this point on!

Cloggin!

Since the toe is fired up I've been in a bit of a shoe dilemma. See, I can't wear any closed toe shoes. This is made even better by the fact that one foot has an ugly toe. Figures! Now, last time this happened it was no big deal because I wasn't working, it was summer and I just wore flip flops. Now I am a working girl and J Crew flip flops with whales on them just don't go well with the office attire. On the other hand I really don't want to fork out a ton of money for shoes right now.

So....I did the next best thing! Thrift store shopping. Sometimes you can find the BEST shoes at thrift stores. Now I know some people would freak out by this and not want to put their foot where someone else's foot has been. I don't care. I pretty much draw the line at wearing someone else's underwear and that's about it.

Lucky for me I found a thrift store score this weekend! I got one pair of strappy cute sandals for $5 and the score of the century. A brand new pair of Dansko clog sandals for $9!!! They are cute enough for work and cute enough for me to wear this summer. Plus, they match Whisky and he is so happy that we can walk together in style now.

This is the good foot by the way. The other one is shamefully hiding!

Free from hair!

We've been having some problems in the truck lately with all the hair and dirt that Whisky gets all over the seat. We tried buying some car seat covers but they didn't work out because our back seat in the truck doesn't lean forward. Then we tried the old sheet trick, but one trip with the window rolled down and the sheet would fall off. I decided to take matters into my own hands and make one. I knew that I wanted to use some type of fleece because if you own any fleece and any animals you will know that hair LOOOOVES to stick to fleece. On a trip to IKEA today I found a fleece blanket that would work perfect and was way cheaper than buying fabric at the store.

I measure the seat and then cut my fabric to size, sewing up the length to give it a crease and attached elastic to attach it around the headrests. I have to say that I'm sooo happy with how this came out...especially considering my limited sewing ability. Now Whisky can ride in the backseat in style and comfort!

Wood Work

Today at IndieSac my favorite vendor by far was Melissa of Haworth Handmade. I bought something from her before the show even started and would have purchaed more if there was more green in my wallet. She's doing alot of woodsy pieces and had these amazing necklace charms made of wood discs that she engraves. I got the best one by far!

Remember?

Remember six months ago when I had the little nail incident? No, well it went a little something like this. Ingrown toenail, needles in toe, half of nail removed, 6 months to grow back, the end. Oh, you can also throw cute summer feet are OVER in there too.

Well, it's been 6 months and just like they said, the nail has grown back......right back into the toe! Went to the Dr today and after poking and prodding it was decided that more needs to be removed again. So in two weeks I go back for another nail rip out session and end the life of cute summer feet forever!

Goodbye pretty pedicures!

You can lead a mouse to cheese....

Last week I found the cutest vintage cheese dish on Etsy. I loved the bright yellow color and the cute little mouse on top. Why is it that mice are so cute when they are not living and running across wires in the backyard?! Since I love putting cheese out when guests come I had to have it. The seller was local too so it came lighting fast. It really makes me want to start thrift store shopping again so I can find cute gems like this.
On a side note, as most of you know I'm a HUGE fan of the Pioneer Woman. Another favorite website of mine is Bakerella. Well today the PW is having a contest for 4 people to come to her ranch for a cooking demo by she and Bakerella. Oh my gosh I had to sit down and take some deep breaths. Unfortunately it's on Tuesday and I just don't see how I could get to Oklahoma on Tuesday (oh I did price flights and see how long it would take to drive.) I guess I'll just have to wait for the next time she hosts a gathering. If you live in Oklahoma, or driving distance, you should enter!

The Luck of the Irish!

Don't forget to come to IndieSac this Saturday! Bouton Blue will be there representing and hopefully if I get my butt in gear there will be some new items and displays.

Also, mention at the Bouton Blue table that you heard about the show on this blog and receive a free little gifty!

HP Rules!

Seriously, this person is either a huge Harry Potter fan or (as my girlfriend RP says) Jessica Kingsley Rowling is super pissed now about a particular wizard book writer stealing her glory.

Dessert Tray

I saw this great idea online for making a dessert stand or cake stand using items from the thrift store. When I did my second time around craft demonstration I really wanted to give this a try. I went to the thrift store to find items to use and found the stuff. I used two bud vases (that matched) a serving platter, a salad plate and a bowl...costing about $4 total. Then, using tried and true E6000 I just glued them all together. I love the way it came out! I had a raffle at the event so this stand went home with someone, so I'm definitely going to have to do this again for myself.

Happy Birthday G!

Today is our friend G's bday. I won't tell you how old he is turning but it is when you start receiving "Over the Hill" gifts! Yesterday for his birthday we fixed G a wonderful dinner of stuffed tri-tip, twice baked potatoes, olive cheese bread and mixed green salad. The hardest thing was deciding what to do for dessert. G isn't a big dessert eater. I always force him to try my desserts but very seldom does he just dig right in. I've been itching to make a cake lately so I thought maybe I could come up with a cake that he would actually like. Then it struck me...he loves Family Guy! Now I know that has nothing to do with cake, but I figured I could probably pull off a decent Stewie head cake.

Not too shabby and I think G loved it! Now I want to start the cake business back up, but maybe just make groom's cakes because I never want to do another wedding cake in my entire life!

Happy Birthday G!!!
