Beauty and the Beast

This is my girlfriend Kim and I. This was back when I had 18 inches of bangs and she had 18 inches of eyebrows. Needless to say we have been friends a long time!

When I found out Kim was pregnant I could not have been happier to have a close buddy having a baby too. When I found out she was having a girl I was so thankful that she would be growing a girlfriend for Leyton. It just seemed so convenient. Growing up I have always been just a tad taller than Kim. For that reason we have always called each other Sprout and Jolly Green Giant. Apparently the stars were aligned for us to have children that could carry on that tradition. As you know when Leyton was born he weighed 9.7lbs and was 22.5" long.....Presley on the other hand was 4lbs 11oz and 17 5/8" long.

Today these love birds got to meet for the first time. I think it is a match made in heaven and he will forever protect his little beauty.

Giggles

Today we had a first and oh how I loved it. It was the first time that Leyton got the giggles. He has been a bit crabby the past two days and so his daddy sent me a text to see how he was doing. He was crabby of course and so that was what I replied. Immediately after Leyton was all smiles and super happy. I decided to take a picture of him to send to daddy. When Leyton heard the click of the camera going off he start laughing. I tried again, more laughter. Of course since I now have a video recorder...I had to capture it. He's not laughing as hard in the video as he was when it first went off but you can see that the sound makes him especially happy....which I find especially adorable.

Thrifty

While I don't have as much time with the baby, I do try to sneak in a thrift store trip when I can. On a recent trip I found a couple items. Whenever I see these gorgeous blue Ball jars I have to get them if the price is right. Ha, "blue ball."

I also found this great vintage leather bound Lake Tahoe photo album. We have a vacation coming up soon and I can't wait to use it! Sorry for the photo, Blogger is being weird this morning!

My coworker.

When I was pregnant I decided that I didn't want to take maternity leave. Call me crazy, but I hate dealing with the state and the shenanigans to get paid. Instead I worked out a deal with my coworkers that I would work from home. That is what I have been doing since I walked in the door with Leyton. Has it been challenging, yes. Has it worked, yes. What's more fun is I have a little coworker. Sometimes I have typed emails one handed while this dangles over my shoulder. It took me a while to get smart and move a swing by my desk. So now, when work gets intense...I just look over and smile. I go back to the office soon and I'm sure going to miss my little coworker.

A classic!

A recent trip to my in-laws scored me another great book! They have a huge bookshelf in their family room full of fantastic old books. I was always a big fan of the Peanuts when I was a kid. In fact, when I was in 5th grade we had to write to someone famous and I chose Charles Schultz. Great thing was, he actually wrote back. It wasn't a fan club note, it was a personal letter from him with a drawn photo. Oh I wish that I had that now but it got left at the school.

What makes this book even more great is it is from Scholastic. Man I loved ordering from them. I hope they are still around and Leyton comes home with those great catalogs. I can only imagine the books are 60 cents anymore though!

Prepster

If we dressed him any preppier we would have had to name him Blaine. Oh, I guess we'd have to flip the collar up too!

Tummy Time!

Leyton has been able to lift his head pretty well for a while now. Then all of a sudden he noticed his hands and tummy time was spent just sucking on his fingers. This week he decided that it's much more fun to look around than to just suck fingers and this mama couldn't be prouder!

You're In Trouble

You're in trouble. Let me just warn you. I used this great website called Woot and went and got myself a little pocket video camera. I don't show you quite enough pictures of my son and thought that I should go ahead and add videos too. Wanna know what I took my first video of? Myself! Eeek!! See there was this great contest online to win a Tempur-Pedic mattress, but it involved making a video and so I got a little crazy and did just that. video

I probably won't win, the video is lame, but what the heck.

What I have learned from making this video is:

1. Having a baby has made my hair flat because I have no time to fix it.
2. I seriously have a lisp with my S's...what the heck is up with that? What is my tongue doing?!
3. I do look tired enough to deserve a new mattress
4. I should only take videos of my child.

Wanna Share

Blogger has added a new feature where upon reading one of my wonderful blog posts, you as the reader, can quickly share it with the world. I know that you are going to want to use this because let's face it, my blog posts are amazing! At the bottom of each post you will find the share button and can click on the application of your choice. I've circled it in this horrible attempt at a web shot, I'm pretty certain you will find it on your own though! So share away, but only share the good posts please. Which means, you probably aren't going to want to share...but I had to have something to blog about!

The collage is finished!

I had one final piece to finish in Leyton's room and oh lordie did it take me forever! I found some flash cards from 1960 and picked out 12 of my favorites. I colored them in slightly and painted some frames from Ikea. I've had that part done for ages. What scared the heck out of me was hanging them on the wall! I was afraid that I would get them spaced wrong and crooked. Finally I found an old shelf in the garage and used that as my guide. The pictures are up and I couldn't be happier with how it came out.
Also, how perfect is it that when put in alphabetical order the first two are Baby and Ball! Love it!

No napping!

Thanks to Baby Geek I currently know how much Leyton is NOT napping. Leyton was pretty consistently getting 14ish hours of sleep a day...which is pretty average for a kiddo his age. Last Monday he slept almost 17 hours. No rhyme or reason to it, just drifted off to sleep whenever I sat him down. Before the 17 hour stint he would wake up around 5-6am and then take a nice morning nap by 8am that lasted two hours, sometimes up to three and a half. It was heaven. It gave me a chance to sneak some more sleep in and start my work day. Throughout the rest of the day Leyton would take a couple short naps and another longer 1-2 hour nap later in the afternoon.

On Tuesday, it came to a screeching halt. The naps went from hours to no more than 15-20 minutes giving him about 11 hours of sleep a day...most of that happening at night. Luckily the nighttime sleep wasn't affected, but no daytime sleep for baby means no rest for mommy which is not the greatest thing. By Thursday Leyton was fussier, this boy needed sleep.

It was suggested at the last doctor's appointment that Leyton switch to a new formula that had an easier to digest protein. I hadn't made the change yet because I had other formula, but by Thursday night I decided to switch thinking maybe this was having something to do with the sleep. I bought a formula by Similac called Alimentum. Holy hell, this stuff smelled like soup that had been left in a Tupperware in a care in the Arizona summer only to be found a year later and opened. I don't have a big gag reflex, but this stuff hit me with a ton of bricks. I didn't want to hold my baby because the smell coming from his mouth made me want to vomit. Unfortunately he was also spitting up quite a bit. That one bottle was the last of the Alimentum..I just couldn't take it for either of us. I then went to the other option, Gerber Good Start. He had the first bottle Friday morning. Friday, he slept 16.5 hours! I figured my prayers were answered.

Today, he's going to hit about 10 hours. Apparently I need to pray harder.

I'm a geek!

When I had Leyton I found Dr's appointments challenging at times. In fact, I guess it started in the hospital. The questions would come: how much has Leyton eaten, how many diapers wet/poo, how much sleep. I always sat there like a deer in the headlights. I then tried getting an Itzbeen timer, but honestly didn't like it much. I forgot to push the buttons and just never felt like it did anything other than remind me when to do something.

Since I'm not cool enough for an iPhone I have my iPod Touch and decided to look for an application that might help me. It was then that I found Baby Geek!! I seriously LOOOOVE this application. I'm slightly addicted to it. It helps me keep track of everything. It averages how much sleep Leyton is getting, how much he is eating, diapers, etc. I can put my own items in and add them as they happen. There is a growth tracker, a place for questions for the doctor. It's seriously one of the most favorite things I have bought to help me with the kiddo. At the two month check up and I had the answers to everything and had all the questions that I wanted to ask easily stored in one place. All of that for just 99 cents!! I highly recommend it to any mommy out there!

Attack of the Killer Tomatoes!

The tomatoes in the garden are in full force. I have to go and pick daily in order to keep the backyard creatures from chomping on them. My favorites are by far our little yellow cherry tomatoes. There are some red tomatoes though that look like something out of a freak show. Every tomato looks like a Siamese twin making them ENORMOUS! I can't wait to make some salsa soon!

Two Months Old!

Incredible. Don't see a huge difference between month 1 and month 2 in size. Just looks more grown up.He's wearing the same onesie, just has less room in the crotch area now cause he's longer. What a difference in demeanor though!

Curly Q

I'm still loving Leyton's curly hair and wish it stayed curly when it is dry. I mean when it is wet it is sooo curly and dry it just looks wavy. I'm hoping he keeps this as he gets older, but I know kids hair changes. I was trying to get some curly shots after a bath and thought this shot was sooo cute! Trying to capture a smile and curls and of course the kiddo gets cut off!
Even more adorable after he woke up from a nap that day it was all flat except for one curly q in the front. Soo adorable!

Do you Ebate?

I'm an online shopper. I find it convenient and if done right you can spend less than you do in stores. I recently found out about Ebates and I'm so sad I didn't know about this sooner. You can earn cash back at you favorite stores by going through Ebates! Pretty much every online retailer I use is on there. Not only that, but any coupon that the site is running is also available. Check it out!

Ouch!

Today Leyton had his 2 month shots. Can you believe that next week he will be two months? While it's scary that time has passed so quickly I am enjoying him more and more the older he gets. Anyway, back to the shots. They sucked. Part of the problem was he was dead asleep after a traumatic doctor's visit. Leyton is a bit of a crab apple when he is moved around, undressed, dressed, etc. This doesn't happen all the time, but if he is not in the mood for something he will LET YOU KNOW that he is not in the mood for something.

Today at the doctor he was not in the mood to be examined and instead wanted to stare at the pretty under the sea wallpaper border. He screamed at the top of his lungs the entire visit, and he hadn't even had the shots yet. Once the exam was over I got him settled down and he quickly fell asleep. Then he had to be woken up, to be stuck by three needles. Not a good way to wake up!

When the first shot went in he screamed a scream that I have never heard before, and then cried through the next two. Luckily he recovered quickly and then coo'd at me as if to say "Let's please not do that again." I promised that we wouldn't....for at least two months!

On a side note, Leyton now weighs 13lbs and 13 ounces and is 23.5 inches long. He is wearing 3-6 month when they are labeled with a range...and 6 months when they are a single digit number. He is also officially in number 2 diapers. Needless to say, he's a pretty big boy.

Morning Guy

Leyton is a morning guy. He is up at 5am most mornings and is full of smiles and laughs. If he wasn't so cute I would probably want to kill someone. I'm not a morning person, he gets this entirely from his father. I use the word "father" when it's a characteristic that I don't like so much. Daddy is when it's cute...like how he looks just like his daddy!

I'm starting to enjoy the morning time though and after feedings Leyton and I spend a good twenty minutes talking and laughing and each other. Then he gets bored of me. I'm working my hardest on capturing a good smile picture but those damn lights on the camera distract him every time. This is the closest that we've gotten.

Onesie Sucker

I'm totally a onesie sucker. When you have a girl there are a plethora of cute dresses and such to put your baby in. When you have a boy, not so much. Where they get you with the boy are with the sayings on the onesies and t-shirts and I am a complete sucker for it. Leyton has quite a collection of catchy onesie phrases and probably will until he starts picking out his own outfits. This is by far one of my favorites!

Spooky

While my mom was here I finally had the chance to visit the Second Sunday antiques under the freeway in Sacramento. We shared baby duty and took Leyton on his first antique outing. It was amazing! There was so much stuff to look at under there. Many of it was priced high for my tastes, but it is a great place to "window" shop and look for things you might find later and cheaper at a thrift store. I only walked out with one thing that I had to have. I thought it would be perfect to put out at Halloween...but I must admit it is out already. Isn't it beautifully spooky?

Tick Tick Tick

There is something that I find annoying about most of the baby items. I'm sure it was created with good intention but in my world...it sucks. That would be the built in timer. Many items play music, vibrate or have some sort of light. The built in timer causes these things to go off. This can be anywhere from 45 minutes later, which is acceptable, to 15 minutes later which is RIDICULOUS. I definitely have a baby that needs distraction. A baby that takes a while to simmer down and settle in. A baby that gets relaxed and then bolts awake when the crickets stop chirping 15 minutes later. While I appreciate that these items are trying to save me battery life I would like to plead to the manufacturers to PLEASE install an override button!!!

Playdate!

Yesterday Leyton and I had our first playdate. My girlfriend Kate brought her three month old daughter over for a visit. We decided to put the kiddos next to each other on the bed to hang out. What happened next made me laugh so hard I cried.

In typical girly fashion Getty got chatty...super chatty. What made it even more hilarious is she sounded like she had just saddled up to the bar to tell the bartender her woes. Leyton, he just stared off into oblivion practicing the manly characteristic of not listening. Only occasionally letting out a little sob himself as if to say, "Are you ever going to shut up woman?"
